Overview

Lake Bogoria is a saline, alkaline lake and lies just south of Lake Baringo. With it’s ideal conditions it is home to one of the world’s largest populations of lesser flamingoes. Due to the lake’s alkalinity, blue green algae grows well, this in turn feeds the flamingoes. With up to two million flamingos in some seasons, Lake Bogoria is a dramatic spectacle when it’s awash in bright pink, but it’s also home to dozens of other bird species and wildlife

Departing from Nairobi at 7:00 AM, this day trip to Lake Bogoria offers a scenic drive through the Great Rift Valley, with a stop to admire the landscapes. By mid-morning, you’ll arrive at Lake Bogoria, greeted by thousands of birds. You will leave the car behind for a walking tour around the lake reveals its geothermal wonders, including hot springs and geysers. As you explore, you’ll witness vibrant birdlife, including thousands of flamingos that line the lake’s shores, creating a stunning pink contrast against the blue waters, that often gather in numbers as high as two million. The lake is home to over 135 bird species, such as little grebe, swift, and African spoonbill, as well as large mammals like buffalo, zebra, and cheetah. After exploration, we will break for lunch in one of the hotels. Later you’ll head back to Nairobi for drop offs.
